Even if masks become a permanent fixture for the rest of my time on earth, I'm telling you right now that I absolutely refuse to give up lipstick.
It's just my thing, it's how I get a pop of color on my face, it makes me feel good. And no matter how hard I try, there's a better chance of me convincing Sade to do a Verzuz battle against Cardi B than there is of me becoming a full-fledged eyeshadow girl (even though I enjoy playing up my eyes every once in a while). Sorry 'bout it!
Now that I've made myself clear, I'd be doing us both a disservice if I didn't tell you all about my favorite lipstick formula: Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrance Lipstick.
This collection of ultra-pigmented shades only requires one swipe for the perfect amount of color payoff, and it actually will stay on all day once it dries down — no reapplication necessary.
The MatteTrance line currently has over 30 shades, but the family continues to grow anytime Mother has a new idea up her sleeve, and I for one am not complaining.
By being spoiled with so many colors, it's hard to choose just one as your favorite. However, as Armageddon is seemingly on the way (it's been real, folks!), I'm just going to go ahead and play favorites and admit that Elson 2 — which in my opinion is the perfect shade of red — is the one color you'll always catch me in on most Zoom calls or IG Lives.
While a little ended up on the inside of my mask — mostly from the corners of my mouth — once it was safe to take my mask off, I couldn't tell the difference. I tried it again that day and wound up with the same impressive result. It looked like I had just put it on.
So tell a friend to tell a friend that lipstick is far from over, even if (God forbid and knock on wood) we have to wear masks until 2073. Well, at least if Pat McGrath's got anything to do with it.
The Splurge is our recurring column dedicated to expensive beauty products that are worth it. This week, why we're rebuying Pat McGrath's MatteTrance Lipstick, despite the $38 price tag.
